What is Belkyra & Deoxycholic Acid?
A Belkyra or Deoxycholic acid treatment is a nonsurgical injection technique that is used to decrease the amount of excess fat underneath the chin.
How does a Belkyra & Deoxycholic Acid treatment work?
It works by reducing the amount of fat cells in the area. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Belkyra breaks down the fat cells. This causes some inflammation in the area as the body’s immune system clears out the broken-down cells and fat.

It is primarily used to decrease the amount of excess fat underneath the chin in carefully selected patients.

Generally, the beneficial effects of Belkyra and DCCA can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. However, it is important to note that if you don’t maintain a healthy lifestyle with proper diet and exercise, fat reduction could be lost.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects include swelling, bruising, numbness, and some pain at the injection site. In rare cases, patients may also experience discomfort or tenderness in the area. Some swelling is a sign the medication is working, and less swelling typically occurs at future treatments.
Things To Know Before Your Treatment
What to expect before treatment?
Prior to scheduling an appointment for Belkyra or DCCA, Dr. Krushel or his assistant will discuss your circumstances, and provide some additional information to help determine whether DCCA treatments are right for you.
Treatment cost ranges from $1,500 to $3,000, depending on the amount of submental fat you have—mild, moderate, or severe. If you fall into the severe category, you may require more sessions, and therefore more product, to achieve the results you’re looking for.
Pre Treament Instructions
You should make sure you are hydrated and have eaten beforehand.
Post Treament Instructions
- You may take Tylenol/ Acetaminophen if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort.
- Drink plenty of water for 48 hours after treatment. Remain upright for 4 hours following an injection.
- Do not apply makeup over the injected area (risk of infection) for at least 24 hours. Only touch the injected area with clean hands, clean makeup tools, and clean towels.
- Apply a cold compress for 5 mins x 5 times a day x 5 days.
- For 24-48 hours, avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, and exposure to UV radiation, high heat environments (e.g. sauna, spas, and hot showers).
